Neil and Alison

Neil grew up in Yorkshire but quickly swapped to the other side of the Pennines to go to university and has never gone back. He had 34 years' experience working for a multi-national battery company. Prior to taking early retirement in July 2020, he managed a particular niche aspect of the European IT system. Since then, he has had several home projects to keep himself occupied and has taken up golfing (badly) at a local course.

Alison was born in Lancashire and often had holidays in and around Cartmel as a child - it's no wonder we considered this as our number one area for the cottage. Previously worked as a Senior Manager in a regulatory role, she joined Neil in early retirement at the end of July 2021. A keen baker she also exercises regularly to work off the fruits of her labour.

We have been together for 16 years, married for over 7 now and have three grown up children between us. We bought Bluebell Cottage in 2016 with the intention of using it as a holiday let and also second home. However, after spending only a few weekends there ourselves, we decided to move from a pretty Lancashire village to the even prettier village of Cartmel where we quickly realised it was the best decision we had ever made (marriage aside of course!).

Walking has always been a favourite of ours but since the move to Cartmel it has become an obsession. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to find more and more local walks within a small radius of the village, all of which are blessed with the beauty of the South Lakeland Peninsula. More recently we have started to consider getting wetter and are in the process of getting paddleboards to fall off!

Between the two of us we know the area reasonably well and are always available to assist our guests with any concerns or queries.
